Rant and Rave for August 28, 2008
Reflected benefits
“Taxing the rich at higher rates (called progressive taxation) reflects the benefits they get from society. Who gets more benefit out of public infrastructure, a guy with a bike, or a guy that owns a fleet of trucks? The Bible addresses the idea very well with, ‘To whom much is given, much will be expected.’”
Get training
“If you can legally own a handgun, then you can carry it in your car (in glove box or console), home or your property without a permit. You must have a permit to carry concealed outside your property. I would also suggest training if you carry.”
No ‘funding’
“ ‘Strength in numbers’ needs to investigate the facts before commenting on a subject about which he or she knows little. The majority, if not all, of the funding for the athletic programs are generated by the athletic programs themselves (namely football ticket sales) and do not require tax dollars. ‘Funding’ never seems to get cut for these programs because there is no ‘funding’ for these programs. You can't cut anything from zero.”
Warning appreciated
“This is a Rave for the Tift County 911. I was not aware that Tifton had the Code Red available here. Over the last couple of days when we had tornado warnings on I-75 and the surrounding areas, I received a call from 911, I guess that is where the calls come from, that Tifton was under a tornado warning. I really appreciated that warning. Where I live I cannot hear the sirens when they go off.”
Clean the creeks
“Beavers are stopping up creeks and streams all over Tift County. I would encourage the Tift County Commissioners to hire trappers and clean up our creeks. The backed-up water is killing lowland trees and not allowing water drainage to flow naturally.”
