Rant and Rave for August 27, 2008
Repeal NAFTA
“I must disagree with ‘The exception.’ The blame for the decline of American Industry does not lie with the consumer. China, India, and Mexico do not require their industries to meet the OSHA, EPA and public safety standards that we require of our companies. India and China dump raw products and consumer goods on the market at below cost because their governments will subsidize this practice. China has repeatedly devalued their currency in order for their products to remain cheaper. Urge your federal representatives to repeal NAFTA and the Free Trade Agreement until these countries curtail these practices and require the same standards that we require of our industries.”
Not everybody
“Everyone does NOT pay taxes. Drug dealers, prostitutes, illegal immigrants etc. do not pay taxes. We need to eliminate the federal Income tax and implement a national sales tax instead (Fair Tax). Prices would stay the same and EVERYONE would pay. A monthly stipend would cover the taxes on 'life necessities.’ This would certainly alleviate our federal budget shortfalls and give Americans back the power lost to an arbitrary, penalizing and chaotic tax code. Be ready
In response to ‘Simple solution’: I hope you can afford for the 90 percent and their families you want laid off to come and live with you, because if I get laid off, I'm looking for you.”
Join us
“This is for underpaid. You can make what teachers do; just become a teacher. Georgia has a shortage of teachers. Join us, we’d love to have you.”
Strength in numbers
“Why have people in Tifton fallen into the ‘herd mentality.’ Question our elected officials and demand answers. We are letting them dictate to us how things are going to be rather than representing what we want. Example: Tift County schools have a much smaller percentage of student athletes than those that are not, but funding doesn't ever seem to get cut from sports programs. There is strength in numbers and all taxpayers should inquire about how money is spent in our schools.”
