Rant and Raves for August 15

Let’s fix it

“Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy in this country. Our present health care system is the most expensive in the world. Health care costs more per person in the United States than in any other nation. We spend a greater portion of our GDP on health care than any other member of the United Nations except for East Timor. The U.S. is the only industrialized nation that does not ensure that all citizens have coverage. We spend a greater fraction of our national budget on health care than Canada, Germany, France, or Japan. ...Our health care system is broken. Let's fix it. Support health care reform.”

Out of the woodwork

“The Bush administration had eight years to fix the health care system and didn't. Why? Because the current status quo mess benefited them and their lobbyist friends financially. Mess with the status quo and look what you get: Shouting and raving conservatives come out of the woodwork.”

Thanks to ICU

“I was recently a patient at Tifton Regional. I would like to say thank you to the nurses in ICU, and a special thank you to Vickie Walker, Joe Pitts and Jodie Lott, respiratory therapist Wayne Taylor and Joel Presley. A very special thank you to Winnie Whitman; she went out of her way to help me. Dr. Sumner — I wouldn't be here if not for her. I'm sorry if I missed anyone. MAY GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!”

Special thanks

“A special thank you goes out to Mr. Glenn Giddens and Harvey’s for donating to students. It’s always nice to see our local businesses supporting education.”
