Your Opinion: KTB requests Adopt A Mile reports

Adopt a Mile is a litter prevention program involving citizen volunteers who remove trash from a designated road stretch. The volunteers are requested to complete four trash removal events a year and to report the results to the appropriate sponsoring agency when they have picked up their mile. Tammy Burgess ( tburgess@dot.ga.gov or 229-391-6986) or Doris Swarn ( dswarn@dot.ga.gov ) at the Department of Transportation receives reports for adopt a mile events along highways. Bert Crowe ( bcrowe@tifton.net ) or Duncan McClusky ( mcclusky@uga.edu ) receives reports for litter removals along city or county roads.

The reports should include information on the street adopted, the date of the pickup, the number of participants, the number of bags collected, the time taken to pick up the bags, and what happened to the bags after a pickup.

Any organization not reporting their trash removal events can have their sign removed and potentially lose their mile.

Thank you to the following individuals or organizations for reporting adopt a mile events in 2009: Carolyn Abell, the Circle K Club of ABAC, Grace Thompson, Keep Tift Beautiful, the Kiwanis Club of Tifton, the Northeast Tifton Homeowners Association, the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Tifton Campus, and the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Tifton Campus Library.

Do any other adopt a mile participants have a report to make?

Thank you.
