Rant and Rave for May 16, 2008
Call animal control
“Answer to the Rant about spraying the neighbor’s dog: Why spray your neighbor’s dog with pepper spray? Be aware of the following: If the dog is indeed on your property, he needs to be doing more than just barking at you. If you fear this dog, why don't you call animal control. There is a lease law in Tift County. If someone pepper-sprayed my dog, while he was on my property, I would summon the police and charge them with animal cruelty. Lastly, if a barking dog bothers you, why not put up a privacy fence around your yard. If he can't see you — he will not bark.”
Spend your money
“If the people who want a skatepark are willing to pay for it, OK. Do not use any tax dollars. Look back at recreation things that have been built in Tifton, and you will see that they are all closed. The people did not support them. No tax dollars.”
DIY
“Why does a skatepark cost so much? 350K?? When I was a kid my friends and I collaborated and built a BMX track in an abandoned field. It cost us a little sweat and a little more time! We knew better than to lobby to our parents for anything except a few shovels and some extra daylight. 350K for some boards, some rails, nails and a slab of concrete. If you log-on to YouTube and type in ‘How to build a skate ramp’ it will show you how to build various ramps. Take charge and do it yourself. One day you can send a R&R to the paper and show your disgust and explain how your tax money can be used in a better way!”
A hint
“Drivers, make sure you turn off your blinker if you are not turning.”
Sweet deal?
“Keep in mind, everyone, the (county’s) financial obligation to the skatepark goes beyond any monies they may or may not spend on construction. The county will be solely responsible for its upkeep as well. I still think the skaters get a really sweet deal with a free plot of land, with free maintenance and all they have to do is build it. There are a lot of other groups in town who would jump at the chance.
