And so it goes...
And so it goes...
This is my last piece for now. I may not write another.
For 22 years I have tried to be a voice for those of you that didn’t agree with things as they are or for those of you that were afraid to write. The following is a round-up of loose ends.
Our beloved communities are in pretty good shape. We have a lot of dedicated people in good positions to look out for us. As I write this, I wonder if my railings at the sky did anything to make life one bit better for us. Or did I just irritate people? In all the writing I did, I was never afraid to put my name out there. I have always signed my opinions and I did not write in anger.
We face a lot of things in the future. Some of these things are creating jobs, protecting our neighborhoods, the war against drug abuse, people not being able to read and write, taxes on senior citizens and folks on fixed incomes, and sloth in government. And the list goes on and on.
And now to tidy up some unfinished business. This year has been interesting.
We have elected the People’s Mayor, Jamie Cater, the most generous person I know.
We have City Manager Mike Vollmer. He is super.
We have Jack Stone downtown and Mr. Lindsey helping and respecting veterans.
We have the Tifton Police Department, a great chief and good officers.
We have a sheriff that has compassion and a staff of officers that care about us and our families.
We have Judge Gary McCorvey working to rehabilitate criminals and helping abused children to get back to a normal life. He cares about our community.
We have Greg Sowell, the “Peacemaker.” He has accepted the position of getting the Chamber fired up again. I don’t believe I’ve ever met a better person.
We have Cindy Evers working to make our town better. She volunteers for so many things.
We have Eunice Mixon working the State Capitol for us. What a personality.
