Jules Floyd Haywood Jr.

TIFTON — Jules Floyd Haywood Jr., 85, of Tifton passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 at his residence.

A memorial visitation will be held from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. Interment will be held at a later date in the Maplewood Cemetery in Paris, Tenn.

Born Nov. 18, 1926 in Paris, Tenn., to the late Jules Floyd Haywood Sr. and Mabel Hill Haywood, Mr. Haywood attended Vanderbilt University and completed his Bachelor of Arts at Murray State University in Murray, Ky.

Following graduation, he taught and coached in Tennessee, and then moved to Senatobia, Miss., where he raised his family and worked as a plant manager in the textile industry.  

After leaving Mississippi, Carolyne and Floyd lived in Pennsylvania before retiring and moving to Tifton in 1985.  Mr. Haywood was well known as having worked at the Forest Lake Golf Course in Tifton for 15 years.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army with occupational forces in Germany.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Verne Haywood.

Mr. Haywood is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyne Giles Haywood of Tifton; daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Rick Davis of Maryville, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, James Giles and Becky Haywood of Grand Rapids, Mich..; granddaughter, Hannah Brock and her husband, Scott; grandsons Daniel Giles Haywood and Philip Thomas Haywood; one brother, James Haywood and one sister, Rosalyn Haywood.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Raintree Village Children’s Home 3757 Johnston Road, Valdosta, Ga. 31601 or the American Cancer Society, 323 Pine Avenue, Albany, GA  31701.
