Nellie Boykin Bailey

TIFTON — Nellie Boykin Bailey died peacefully Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, following a brief illness.  She was born in Nashville Nov. 29, 1918. Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at  Westview Cemetery in Nashville with the Rev. Freddie Stone and the Rev. Wayne Roe officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a church or charity of choosing. The family will receive friends after the service at 110 Smith Ave, Nashville, "The Boykin Home Place."

Nellie was the fourth of nine children of the late William M. and Mary Brown Boykin.  She was married to the late Thomas W. Bailey on Nov. 18, 1948. Tom passed away Aug. 2, 1980.  She was predeceased by sisters Jewell B. Mathis, Joyce B. Chapple, Stella B. Cox, and brothers Junior Boykin and Jack D. Boykin Sr.

Nellie is survived by three sisters: Jane B. Griner of Jasper, Fla., Betty B. Bennett of Nashville and Polly B. Hendrix of Evans.

Nellie lived a blessed life and was truly loved by a host of nieces and nephews.  She was able to live an independent life and took care of her home. Nellie's joys in life were knitting and crocheting for family members, mowing her lawn, cooking for her family, and playing cards with her friends.  She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Tifton. Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville is in charge of arrangements.
