Kenneth M. Newkirk

TIFTON — Kenneth M. Newkirk of Tifton died Monday, June 25, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gressette Gymnasium on the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with the Rev. Jermaine D. Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include current and former students, and staff of Abraham Baldwin’s Upward Bound Program and members of Tifwilar Coalition. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the residence, 1580 Carpenter Road South.

Mr. Newkirk was born January 26, 1944 in Tifton to Bennie and Sallie Newkirk, both deceased. He was a retired educator of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and member of Allen Temple A.M.E. Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Brown Newkirk; two daughters, Kristin and Krystal; an aunt, Cleo Pertilla Bailey; two brothers and sister-in-laws, David Brown (Paula) of Albany and Brenda Stokes (Oscar) of Tifton, as well as several nieces and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ABAC Upward Bound Program, Attn: Jean Oliver-Burks, 2802 Moore Highway, 26, Tifton, Ga. 31793. Arrangements for the Newkirk family are being provided by Frank and Solomon Nixon Funeral Home.
