Christine Sumner Davis Allen



TIFTON — Christine Sumner Davis Allen, 80, of Tifton died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Tift Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Chula. The Rev. Dan Eidson and the Rev. Chad Hall will officiate with burial to follow in Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Grandsons Roger Mangham, David King, Mike Shaw, Ches Mangham, Jason Marchant, Justin Marchant, Ryan Shaw and Ches Mangham II will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Talley, Jack Talley, Larry Jones, Mike Fletcher, Dan Gibson, Gerald Branch, Nathan Branch and Irwin Branch Jr.

Mrs. Allen was born on April 17, 1929 in Tift County and was the daughter of Marcus Eugene Sumner and Nellie Wheeler Sumner, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Thearon Chester Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Chula. She had lived her entire life in Tift County.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband, the Rev. James Eddie Allen of Tifton; three daughters and one son-in-law, JoAnn Davis Mangham of Tifton, Janice Davis Potts of Tifton and Jinny Davis Marchant and her husband, Walt, of Suwanee; one stepson, Kenneth Edward Allen of Valdosta; two stepdaughters, Iris Allen Mathis of Hahira and Maria Pope of Brunswick; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Roger and Mandy Mangham of Tifton, Ches and Linda Mangham of Tifton, David King of Tifton, Christy and Mike Shaw of Ocilla, Michelle Potts of Ocilla, Jason Marchant of Suwanee and Justin Marchant of Suwanee; and 11 great-grandchildren, Krysten Mangham, Brooke Mangham, Emily Mangham, Ches Mangham II, Coleman Mangham, Hannah King and Abby King, all of Tifton, Ryan Shaw, Raylin Shaw, Madelyn Potts and McKenzie Potts, all of Ocilla.
