Sam Camp
LENOX — Sam Eugene Camp, 87, of Lenox died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 at Memorial Convalescent Center in Adel. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Lenox Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmie Hinson and the Rev. Lamar Harris officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Lenox Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at Purvis Funeral Home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Joe Camp, Douglas Hamilton, E. R. Ross Jr., Ray Gene Sumner, Aubrey Michael II and Johnny Lindsey. All friends and acquaintances are considered as honorary pallbearers by the family.
Mr. Camp was preceded in death by his two sons, Jeffery Allen Camp and Bruce Camp; four brothers, Charles Camp, Elsie Camp, Bill Camp and Morris Camp; five sisters, Ella Lee Willis, Clara Mae Bassett, Myrtle Blount, Doris Jones and Dessa Ross.
Mr. Camp was born March 12, 1922 to the late Henry Taswell and Mamie Long Camp. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of Lenox Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Burks Camp of Lenox; one son, Larry Hyder of Thomasville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Pat Camp of Valdosta, Barbara and Randy Johnson of Lenox, Brenda and Bill Hobby of Ashburn, Becky and Joe Griffin of Adel and Rose Camp of Lenox; one sister, Mary Brady of Gainesville; 11 grandchildren, Chris Hawkins of Tampa, Carla Ricks of Valdosta, Nicky Hawkins of Valdosta, Jeremy Johnson of Allentown, Joni Johnston of Ashburn, Kayla Hobby of Ashburn, Austin Griffin of Sparks, Jordan Hobby of Ashburn, Joey Griffin of Adel, Jamie Griffin of Adel and Courtney Camp of Lenox; seven great-grandchildren, Jade Ricks, Ella Grace Ricks and Jackson Ricks of Valdosta, Steven Croft of Ashburn, Jacob Johnson and Annsley Johnson of Allentown and Thea Spencer of Magador, Ohio; and one brother-in-law, Cohen Jones of Lenox.
Purvis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
