Six people were arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol early Friday.
According to an incident report filed at the Tifton Police Department, Officer David Gay was riding through the parking lot of a local nightspot when he saw a young man ( Scott Thomas Prim, 19, 2134 Wolf Creek Court, Lawrenceville) in the parking lot.
According to the report, when Gay spoke to him he smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person and when he asked the 19-year-old if he had been drinking, he responded that he had not.
Gay then asked the man if he would voluntarily blow into a box to prove that he had not been drinking and the man agreed, but instead of blowing into the box, the man sucked in air instead. Gay wrote in his report that he gave the man a second chance to blow into the box but the man again sucked in instead of blowing out. Gay then placed the man under arrest and placed him in the back seat of his patrol car when the man asked Gay if he could blow into the box a third time. Gay wrote that he allowed the man to try again and the portable intoxication machine registered the man had a 0.101 blood alcohol level. The man was then transported to the Tift County jail and booked on underage drinking charges.
In an additional incident report, Gay wrote that five young people came to the Tifton Police Department after Prim’s arrest and were attempting to get him out of jail. He wrote in his report that he was at the police department and could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the group of alleged offenders. He then asked them how old they were and they all advised they were 19.
Gay wrote that he asked the group who had been drinking and no one answered, so he called another officer to the police department and asked him to bring his portable Alcosensor. Gay wrote that all five of the young people blew into the machine and that one blew a 0.091, another blew a 0.120, another blew a 0.280, another blew a 0.040 and another blew a 0.097. All five people were arrested, transported to the Tift County jail by the two officers and charged with underage drinking.
Arrested, in addition to Prim, were Katelyn Gail Lebrun, 19, 1417 Moore Highway; Chastity Roxanne Hayes, 19, 2010 Emmett Drive; Jennifer Deann Farley, 19, 412 Brushy Creek Road, Ocilla; Cory Daniel Lord, 18, 616 N. Park Ave.; and Mattie Elizabeth Waite, 19, 1301 Causey Road, Knoxville.
