    “In a few weeks, our school buses will be filled by children heading back to school. Between now and then, our community can fill one of those buses to the roof with school supplies for local children in need,” said Greg Millette, local United Way executive.

    Following a traffic stop Friday, a Tifton man was arrested after police discovered drugs inside the vehicle.
    Officer William Germaine reported that at approximately 4:45 p.m., he saw a black Honda Accord traveling south on Magnolia Drive run the red light while turning east on Seventh Street. He initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled into a nearby parking lot.

    With the Fourth of July coming up this Friday, those looking to have a good time with fireworks are reminded that they're still illegal in Georgia, excluding sparklers.
    While sparklers and similar non-explosive fireworks devices are legal in Georgia, Ralph Hudgens, Georgia's insurance and safety fire commissioner, is urging citizens to use extreme caution to avoid injuries when using legalized fireworks during the Fourth of July holiday.

    Austin French took to the stage Sunday night on ABC's "Rising Stars" – and he nailed it.
    The 20-year-old worship pastor from Tifton auditioned in Atlanta for the show after a producer saw him on season two of "The Voice," and encouraged him to try out for the new show. Sunday night was his first performance.
    Singing "Georgia On My Mind," French said in a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon that his nerves were on his mind.

    Summer in Georgia is a time for camping trips, cookouts and afternoons by the pool. However, it’s also a time to be aware of the dangers soaring temperatures can bring. Extreme heat is the No. 1 weather-related killer in the U.S, claiming more than 650 lives across the nation each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Tift County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) urges residents to take steps now to beat the heat.
