    Polly Huff used to wear high heels and get manicures.  Now she goes to Tractor Supply to hoist a 50-pound bag of goat food into her vehicle for a ride to her 10-acre farm where her chickens, fiber goats, dairy goats, heirloom turkeys, four rescued dogs and two cats await.

  • BOE to hold public hearings on mill increase

    The Tift County Board of Education has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 3 mills, bringing the millage rate to 17.964 mills. This increase is deemed necessary by the board to meet increased demands on public education and the continued rise in costs. The proposed tax increase for a home with homestead and with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $114 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $120.
