Farmer’s Market opens this weekend in Tifton

TIFTON — Spring is finally here, and with it comes the long-awaited farmer’s market season. Tifton’s Wiregrass Farmers Market launches its second season today, offering a wide array of locally-produced items.

Located under the pole barn behind the Georgia Museum of Agriculture’s Country Store, the market will be open every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon through October. Local farmers and artisans bring seasonal produce, homemade bread, baked treats, farm-fresh eggs, coffee, plants, jams and jellies, handcrafted soaps, natural handicrafts and more.

Educational activities are offered weekly to help connect children and adults alike to rural traditions, and to inspire healthy living. Museum admission is not required to attend the market, and all educational activities are free and open to the public.

Families are also invited to enjoy the market garden, visits from baby farm animals and playtime on the tire swings and see-saws near the pole barn. However, tickets must be purchased to ride the steam train or visit the Museum’s Historic Village.

The market is coordinated, managed and promoted by dedicated community volunteers who share a passion for good food and a healthier community. All vendors are local farmers and artisans.

Those interested in becoming a vendor or volunteer for the market should e-mail organizers at wiregrassmarket@gmail.com or  call 391-5222. Details of events and offerings are listed on the market’s Facebook page and in the market’s weekly e-mail newsletter.
