Tifton man Shelton Ray Floyd, a 60-year-old inmate at the Tift County Jail, died Tuesday, says authorities.
The Tift County Sheriff’s Office released the following information in a press release Tuesday afternoon, “EMS personnel responded to the jail and transported Floyd to Tift Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:30 a.m.”
The press release further states that Tift County Sheriff Gary Vowell stated that he does not believe there was any foul play concerning the death of Floyd. Vowell has asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigative the death of Floyd.
Floyd was arrested Feb. 16 and charged with five counts of child molestation, two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes following allegations of inappropriate contact with children ranging from ages three to 10 while he was employed by Upon Eagles Wings Daycare, located at 334 E. Golden Road.
Tift County Coroner Steve Wood told The Tifton Gazette Tuesday that Floyd’s body will be taken to Macon for an autopsy Wednesday morning. He also stated that he does not believe there was any foul play.
