Tiftarea Academy holds Christmas musical

TIFTON — Tiftarea Academy performed "The Christmas Shoe Tree" Thursday night at the UGA Tifton Conference Center.  The musical included 242 students in grades 1-5 and told the story of helping those in need during this Christmas season. The true message of Jesus' love was shared with all. The musical was under the direction of Becky Rogers.

    Easter Seals Day Solutions is presenting a gospel sing Aug. 9 at the Tift Theatre.
    The doors will open at 5 p.m. and the singing will start at 6 p.m., featuring local gospel groups The Faithful Servants and Three 4 One.

    A total of 262 students at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will receive over $350,000 in scholarships from the ABAC Foundation when classes begin for the fall semester on Aug. 13.

  • TRHS to close long-term care unit

    A rapidly changing health care environment and available bed capacity by local skilled nursing facilities in the community are among the reasons Tift Regional Health System will close its Transitional Care Center at Tift Regional Medical Center by Oct. 1, hospital officials have announced.  TRMC will no longer admit patients to the Transitional Care Center, effective this past Monday.

  • Teen struck by vehicle Saturday

    A 17-year-old male reported to Tifton police that he was struck by a vehicle over the weekend.
    According to an incident report filed at the Tifton Police Department, Sgt. Toni Gann reported Sunday morning that she was sent to the emergency room at Tift Regional Medical Center in reference to a subject being struck by a vehicle.

    A six-week internship program with the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is having a life-changing impact on high school students statewide.
    Nikki Vellidis, a rising senior at Tift County High School, admits to being surprised by the information she was able to learn during her second year in the Young Scholars Program.
