The fire that destroyed Melton Funeral Home on Doc Melton Sr. Drive early Friday was intentionally set, according to investigators with Georgia’s Safety Fire Commissioner’s office.
The fire call came in at approximately 4 a.m. Friday. No one was inside the business at 1002 Doc Melton Sr. Drive, but a witness reported seeing someone run away soon after the fire began. A limousine and hearse parked at the building were also destroyed, and the total damage caused by the fire is estimated at $200,000.
John Oxendine, Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, is asking anyone with information about this fire to call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-282-5804. Rewards of up to $10,000 are given for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist. Calls are taken 24 hours a day; callers can choose to remain anonymous.
