TIFTON — The day after Christmas brought rain and a lot of wind to the Tiftarea. As of presstime, the Coastal Plain Experiment Station in Tifton had only .28 of an inch of rain that fell during the day. However, there were reports of over an inch in other parts of the area. But, the story of the day was the wind. The Coastal Plain website stated the maximum sustained wind during the day came at 5:18 a.m. and was clocked at 38.2 miles per hour. As this is written at 8 p.m., the wind speed is at 14.5 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 27.4 miles per hour. The temperature at that time was 40 degrees, but the wind made the chill factor 32 degrees.
