Plans underway for annual La Fiesta del Pueblo

TIFTON — La Fiesta del Pueblo is a community celebration whose name translates to “The Feast of the People.” The feast, an exposition of the diverse Latino community, is planned for Saturday, Sept. 29, this year, at Fulwood Park.

“La Fiesta del Pueblo will be back for its 16th year with great support from the community," said Eduardo Olalde, Fiesta del Pueblo board leader. "We have a great board of volunteers that are working very hard to make this Festival as great as previous years, maybe even better. With its absence in 2010, we saw a significant decrease in attendance for our 2011 Festival, but we are hoping to make this year even more successful than last. The Fiesta del Pueblo is more than just a festival that celebrates the Hispanic Community. It is a non-profit event that promotes cultural diversity and brings forth awareness of all the different cultures that are normally encompassed into the "Hispanic" title as well as providing information and other services for the community.

"The money raised from the Fiesta del Pueblo is put into the Guadalupe Cervantes Scholarship Fund, which is used to help a student each year achieve their dream of attending college and continuing on with their education. We hope to have the community's support for this Festival so that we may continue with this fund and help students be able to further their education on a yearly basis. We are working hard to bring in new sponsors for our festival this year, and we hope to see some of our regular sponsors back for another year. We are currently looking for vendors to come to our festival as well as exhibitors of any kind. We aim to include a diverse group of vendors, as well as exhibitors that range from art to local agencies."
