TIFTON — A woman was arrested on multiple drug and weapon charges after an unknown caller reported they had just witnessed the woman shooting at another person.

According to an incident report filed by an officer with the Tifton Police Department, he was sent by the dispatcher to the area of 13th Street and South Central Avenue at approximately 4:40 p.m. Monday to reports by a anonymous caller who claimed to have witnessed a woman shooting at another person.

The dispatcher told the officer that the caller said the offender was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt with a black short-sleeve shirt over it and that the black shirt had white writing on it. The officer wrote he spotted a black female wearing the same type of clothing leaning against a light pole near Dee’s Apartments No. 4.

The officer stated in his report that he stopped his patrol car and began talking to the woman, who told him that she heard gunshots but did not know where they came from. The officer stated he then told the women that her clothing matched the description of someone reported for shooting at another person.

The black shirt the woman was wearing was long at the waist and covered the waistband of her pants, the officer wrote, but that he could see a large rounded bulge in her left front pants pocket. He stated when he asked her if she had anything in the waistband of her pants, she replied that she didn’t and lifted her shirt. The officer wrote that he asked her to turn around and as she was turning, he noticed a bulge in her right front pocket that appeared to be a pistol.

The officer stated he grabbed the bulge and it was a pistol. The officer then stated that he handcuffed the woman and removed the pistol from her pocket, at which time she began grabbing at her left pocket and held the pocket tightly so that he couldn’t check it. It was at that time, the officer stated, an unknown man walked up and started grabbing at the woman’s left front pocket as the woman stated her money was in that pocket and she wanted the man to have it. The officer stated the woman told the man, “That guy threatened to kill me, so I came back and shot at him.”

The officer wrote he then commanded the man to back away from him and the woman and the man complied. The officer stated he then removed the woman’s hand from her left front pocket and when he searched the pocket, he found a large sandwich bag that contained 26 smaller bags containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

The woman did not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, the officer stated. He then unloaded three live rounds from the pistol, one of which was in the gun’s chamber. The officer also noted he found a spent round on the ground near his patrol car.

Audrey Denise Johnson, 25, of 120 E. 13th St., Apt. 9, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, violation of the Controlled Substances Act by being within 1,000 feet of a housing authority or a park. Dee’s Apartments is owned by the Tifton Housing Authority.

Lt. Porter Jackson of the Tifton Police Department said Tuesday the identity of the man who allegedly threatened Johnson, and who Johnson claimed to have shot at, remains unknown.
