Special concert will promote ‘Keep Tift Clean and Green’

Special to The Gazete

TIFTON — Enjoy a fall evening under the stars with a free “Keep Tift Clean and Green” concert from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Syd Blackmarr stage in Fulwood Park.

The Tifton/Tift County Keep Tift Beautiful Board is sponsoring the concert to raise community awareness about recycling, community gardening and litter clean-ups. The event includes entertainment by Albert Culbreath; a raffle of “green” items for the home and garden; information on Keep Tift Beautiful projects; and food from the award-winning Zeke’s BBQ and Mobile Catering.

“Tifton is a beautiful place to live, and that’s not by accident,” said Leeann Culbreath, an event organizer. “Many people in the community work hard to coordinate litter clean-ups, plant flowers and gardens and educate the public about recycling.

“Almost everyone in our community can do their part to help keep the Tiftarea clean and green, and we hope the concert will inspire and motivate everyone.”

A variety of food and drinks (hot and cold) will be available, but concertgoers are also welcome to bring a picnic supper to enjoy. Everyone should bring a chair or blanket, and flashlights are encouraged. A love offering will be collected to support Keep Tift Beautiful’s projects, like the community garden at Brother Charlie’s Rescue Mission.

Local entertainer Albert Culbreath is a peanut pathologist by day and enjoys “picking and grinning” on the weekends with the First Methodist Bluegrass Band and other friends. He switches masterfully between the guitar, banjo and fiddle and is known for his humorous songs, jokes and cowboy poetry.

The concert also celebrates America Recycles Day, which is Nov. 15 and is a national effort to promote recycling. The Tifton/Tifton County “recycling rover” will be open for self-guided tours of displays on recycling and other green efforts in the Tifton area. Raffle prizes will be awarded every half-hour, and winners must be present.

For more information, contact Leeann Culbreath at 848-2940.
