Alapaha Station Celebration kicks off with pageant

ALAPAHA — The Miss Alapaha Station Pageant at 7 p.m. today at the Alapaha Gym will kick of the 25th annual Alapaha Station Celebration. Entertainment events for the weekend of Nov. 13 include a parade, gospel sing, clogging and more.

The pageant is open to all females ages one to 19. Call Belinda Horten at 532-4660 or 532-6115 for more information.

The Akins will headline a gospel sing beginning at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Alapaha Gym. A cake auction at intermission will benefit the Celebration Fund. Tickets are available at the door for $7 for adults and $4 for children.

Arts and crafts downtown begin the morning of Nov. 14. Anyone interested in reserving a booth can call Renee at 686-0803 or Linda at 532-6191.

Clogging begins at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 14 at Alapaha Post Office with Flat Creek Cloggers from Nashville and State Prison Cloggers from Lyons. Southern Gunslingers from Andersonville will present a gunfight at 10 a.m. followed by a parade that begins at 10:30 a.m.

The parade will feature floats, beauty queens, antique cars, bands, cartoon characters and more. Miss Georgia 2009 Emily Cook will serve as grand marshal for the parade and will also appear on the entertainment stage and sign autographs after the parade. Floats wishing to be judged must follow the celebrations 2009 theme “Country Living.” All parade entries must complete an application.

Non-stop live entertainment will begin immediately following the parade and will be highlighted by the Van Lears in Concert beginning at 4 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., the Kirsten Underwood Band will perform as well as the Berrien County High School band, gospel and country music performers and more.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Nov. 14, the East Beach Blues Band of Tifton will perform at a concert and dance in the Alapaha Gym. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and are available at the door.

A community worship service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 15 at the Alapaha Gym with Bro. Robby Rowe. Music will be provided by the Celebration Choir.
