Speeding leads to drug bust on I-75

ADEL — A Monday traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Adel led to the arrest of a Miami, Fla., man after more than $80,000 in illegal drugs were found in his possession.
The South Georgia Drug Task Force was called to assist Cook County Sheriff’s deputies during the traffic stop, near the 38-mile marker in the southbound lane. The vehicle had been stopped for speeding, according to a press release from the task force.
A subsequent consent search of the vehicle, which was a rental, led to the discovery of ecstasy and a pistol, the release stated. A total of 4,108 ecstasy pills were recovered from the trunk of the vehicle. The street value of the drugs is estimated at $82,160, the release stated.
The driver, Craig Shorter, 21, was arrested and charged with trafficking ecstasy and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, the release stated
The Adel Police Department assisted with the search of the vehicle.
In an unrelated incident in Lakeland, on Wednesday, Oct. 7, the task force assisted the Lanier County Sheriff’s Office in the arrest of Jasper Boyd, 48, of Naylor. Boyd was arrested and charged with possession of a drug-related object and giving a false name, the release stated.
He was also issued a citation for open container.
