Tifton truck, tractor pull set for weekend start

Trucks, trucks and more trucks — and even some farm tractors — will compete for points and $10,000 in prize money at the Annual Tifton Truck and Tractor Pull Friday and Saturday. Pulling shows start at 7 nightly at the American Legion Fairgrounds on U.S. Highway 82 East in Tifton.

Sanctioned by the Southern Pullers Association and the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League, each show will include two- and four-wheel-drive pulling competitions in pro-stock, modified and super-modified trucks. A show highlight is the four-wheel-drive modified professionals as three national champions will compete for the Tifton title. Diesel-burning farm tractors will also compete in weight classes.

“Pullers enjoy Tifton and the thrill and excitement of power pulling with trucks and tractors,” said Tyron Spearman, coordinator of the event. “Again this year, the track coordination and on-site staff will be provided by the Agricultural Equipment Technology Club at ABAC and proceeds will go to the club’s scholarships.”

Spearman said fans in South Georgia enjoy seeing competitive trucks with Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet and GMC in most classes with often other makes and models.

“This is a family sport as kids and adults will enjoy the competition,” Spearman said.

Another highlight will be local competition for amateur pullers.

The gates open at 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 and no admission for children 5 and under. Puller registration is $10 per unit. Businesses interested in exhibiting at the show or sponsoring a class should contact Spearman at 386-0216.
