Four arrested in drug bust

Four people were arrested at a Tifton residence Thursday by members of the Mid-South Narcotics Task Force and ecstasy, cocaine and marijuana estimated to be worth $3,480 on the streets, digital scales, packaging material, cash and a 9mm handgun were recovered during the raid.

According to Major Jeff Youngblood, 14 agents with the task force and deputies with the Tift County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at 914 Washington St. One of the people arrested, Michelle Lenora Eldridge, 37, listed the address as her residence. She was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of MDMA (Ecstasy) with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Youngblood said that the task force had the residence under surveillance prior to the search warrants being served and observed several of those arrested coming and going from the residence.

Also charged was Johnnie Lee Whitehead, 51, of 407 Gillard St. Whitehead was also charged with possession of cocaine, MDMA and marijuana with intent to distribute. Whitehead was one of 27 people arrested in March 2006 and charged with sale of cocaine in a drug sweep conducted by the Tift County Sheriff’s Office which was dubbed as “one of the largest drug sweeps in the county’s history.” According to court records, Whitehead was sentenced to serve a 10-year sentence on probation after pleading guilty to the charge and ordered to pay a fine.

Bernard Alexander, 27, of 2906 James Ave., was also charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of MDMA (Ecstasy) with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He was also charged with a probation violation relating to a conviction on a prior aggravated assault charge. Johnny Green, 47, 3111 Emerson O’Bynes Ave., was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of MDMA (Ecstasy) with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Youngblood said 22 grams of cocaine worth $2,200, 32 grams of marijuana worth $960 and 16 tablets of MDMA with an estimated street value of $20 were recovered during the bust.
