Tifton woman shot by husband

— A Tifton woman who was shot in the chest by her husband early Saturday morning was listed in good condition at Tift Regional Medical Center Monday.
According to the incident report filed by a Tift County sheriff’s deputy who responded, Willie James Griffin, 60, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Griffin was arrested for shooting his wife, Diane Jenkins Griffin, 54, at a 19th Street address. The incident occurred at another woman’s home after the two fought, according to the report. The home address on the report for the Griffins was at a residence on Collins Street.
Sgt. Ray Merritt of the TCSO’s investigative division, said Monday that Diane Jenkins Griffin was shot at close range. He wouldn’t say what type of weapon Willie James Griffin used but did say that the gun had been recovered.
Merritt said Griffin left the 19th Street residence after the shooting and deputies who responded to the area located him on South Park Avenue. Merritt said Griffin did not resist arrest.
In other law enforcement news, a man who lives in the 1400 block of Deer Run Road reported to Tifton police that he heard a noise outside his home at 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning. He said he opened his front door to investigate and didn’t see or hear anything and went back inside. He discovered that afternoon that a window in his truck has been shattered and his CD remote control player, which was in the vehicle, was lying on the ground.
Also, an employee of Lil Pantry at 1105 Ferrylake Road, reported that he had activated two rolls of scratch off lottery tickets and laid them on the store’s counter so that he could assist customers. When he finished helping the customers, he returned to the counter to get the rolls of tickets and discovered they were missing. He notified Georgia Lottery officials, who told him they would de-activate the stolen tickets. The face value of the tickets stolen is $600.
