The Tift County Sheriff’s Office and the Tifton Police Department are investigating several crimes that occurred over the weekend including the report of a rape, a man shot and a 58-year-old man arrested for participating in criminal gang activity when he was caught painting graffiti on a fence.
Deputies were summoned Saturday afternoon to a West Golden Road address to reports that a man had been shot. Donald A. Miller Jr., 26, of 312 W. Golden Road, reported that a he had been arguing with a man earlier and that the man had returned and shot him in the arm. He was transported to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment. A TRMC spokesman said Monday that Miller had been treated and released.
Tifton police officers arrived at an address in the 1000 block of James Avenue just after midnight Sunday when the owner of the resident reported that someone was spray-painting “SUR 13” in blue on his wooden fence. Jose Roberto Acevedo Nunez, 58, was arrested after an officer stated that he smelled a strong odor of alcohol and that Nunez blew a .23 into a portable intox machine. A five-foot section of the fence was damaged, and the landowner told the officer it would cost an estimated $300 to repair the fence. The landowner advised there were other incidents where people had painted graffiti — “SUR 13” and “Norte 14” — in the past. He reported that an 80-foot section of his fence is completely covered in graffiti.
