Gun shots fired during robbery.

By Angie Thompson

TIFTON

Shots were fired in a local convenience store during an armed robbery early Sunday, but no one was injured. Two suspects were arrested shortly after the incident.

According to an incident report filed by a Tifton police officer, he was dispatched to Flash Foods at 802 W. Seventh Street at approximately 3:12 a.m. Sunday.

Witnesses at the scene told officers that the offenders entered the store with shirts over their heads. A witness said that one of the offenders held the 59-year-old female store clerk at gunpoint while the other offender reached into the cash register and stole approximately $284.

Witnesses told officers that they heard approximately five gunshots before they saw the offenders leaving the scene on foot. An officer noted in his report that he observed two holes in the ceiling of the store and another in a window. Another officer located two men who fit the description of the suspects and they were arrested at Peterson Apartments.

Lecornus Allen Richardson, 35, 115 Quince St., and Terrell Lamar Watson, 30, 1307 S. Ridge Ave., were each charged with armed robbery. Watson was also charged by the Tift County Sheriff’s Office on warrants for aggravated assault, abandonment of dependent child support, pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs and giving a false name or address to law enforcement officers.

In an unrelated incident, a woman reported to Tifton police officers that her son, age unknown, had been hit in the head with a large stick. She told an officer that while her son was near the intersection of South College Avenue and Pehler Drive late Saturday afternoon, he was approached by a man who attempted to start a fight with him.

The woman told the officer that her son walked toward the road to try to talk with the man and the man struck him in the head with the stick. The man told the officer that he did go to the scene but only struck the woman’s son when he was threatened with a large metal pole. Witnesses on the scene asked to remain anonymous and they had conflicting stories, the officer wrote.

The woman’s son was checked on the scene by paramedics with Tifton-Tift County EMS for a large swollen area on his head. He was then released. The officer advised the man and the woman and her son to contact magistrate court for a warrant hearing because of the conflicting stories.
