TIFTON — Arguments and fights at “20 Below,” a club for teenagers, led to the arrest of four teenagers who were charged with disorderly conduct.
A Tifton police officer responded to “20 Below” at 50 Alder St., Suite C, just after midnight Friday to information that several people in the club were fighting with guns and weapons. The 911 dispatcher alerted the officer that people were shooting guns in the club, but none of the officers’ reports indicated that guns were fired or confiscated. Two additional officers were also dispatched as back up for the first officer dispatched.
When the first officer arrived, he noticed large crowds of people scattered throughout the club’s parking lot and noted in his report that it seemed to be an altercation between youths on the south side of the parking lot. He noticed a large crowd surrounding the two additional officers and the officers told the people in the crowd to disperse and move on three times. The club’s security guards were also holding back some of the crowd and telling them to leave.
The officer wrote that Denaurius Hayles, 17, of 629 W. Monroe St., Ashburn continued to yell and push through the crowd and was placed under arrest and charged with disorderly conduct.
The officer wrote that he then heard arguing, yelling and cursing come from the front of the club. He wrote that he told Rory Cornelius Martin, 18, 103 Quince St., and Tommy Lee Johnson, 18, 113 Robins St., who were arguing with the security guards there, to stop. He wrote that the two didn’t stop and that they walked away, continued to argue and yell profanities in the presence of the general public. Martin and Johnson were then arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
An officer wrote in his report that Juqwanna Boston, 17, 262 Sandy Ridge Road, Norman Park, reported at the scene of “20 Below” that a juvenile (age and address unknown) had struck her with a metal folding chair on her left side, chest and the left side of her head during the teen dance. She also reported that the alleged offender kicked her in the head, chest and left side, causing her to have severe pain and trouble breathing. Boston told the officer that she did not do anything to provoke the alleged offender to assault her.
The officer wrote in his report that Boston didn’t appear to have any swelling on her face. She complained of injuries to the left side of her head, chest and side of her abdomen. Witnesses told the officer, he wrote, that they were standing near the wall when the alleged offender struck the victim with the chair several times before she fell on the floor and he then began kicking and stomping her.
Boston was transported to Tift Regional Medical Center by a relative in a private vehicle, the officer wrote.
Another officer wrote in his report that Shayon Tremaine Green, 17, 1007 Upper Ty Ty Road, Ty Ty, reported that he was also assaulted at “20 Below,” his father’s business. He told the officer that he was trying to prevent Deandre Jameon High, 18, 166 Ewing Park, Ashburn, from fighting when Green broke free of him and struck him in the mouth with his fist. Green’s lip was cut and he was transported by his mother to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment. High was also arrested during the event and charged with disorderly conduct.
