'BIG' benefit set up for Big Brothers Big Sisters

By Angie Thompson, Senior Reporter

TIFTON — Texas Jack’s Steakhouse has stepped forward to help the struggling Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Georgia, Inc. Organizers of “The BIG Night” fundraiser for the organization are asking the public to come to the restaurant the nights of June 19 and 20 to eat a meal and enjoy a concert.

“We are going to do all we can and appreciate all the support we have gotten from our Tifton family,” said BBBS Director Nancy Bryan.

Bryan said that Michelle Bassett of Texas Jack’s Steakhouse came to BBBS offering the fundraiser in hopes it would help sustain the BBBS program.

Both nights at the restaurant, volunteer “celebrity” waiters will serve food to the restaurant’s guests. The entire amount of tips given to them for their service will benefit BBBS.

Bryan said the organization still needs volunteer waiters. So far, Len Kiese of WALB; Joseph Carter, a local attorney; Dr. Buddy Cawley; Gail Barnard, YMCA trainer; Donna Campbell, ABAC softball coach; Julie Smith, Advantage Realty; Donna Perrin, Ameris Bank; Steve Hyman, Tifton Police Dept.; Mike Collier, TCHS Athletic Director; Rita Griffin, Tift County Board of Education; Lester Potts, Tift County Board of Education; and Jane Gray, Herring CPA Group have volunteered to serve one or both nights. Anyone interested in volunteering can call Thornhill at 382-2077.

Customers will also have the opportunity to see Kirsten Underwood perform Friday night and Crossroadz on Saturday night. There is a $10 cover charge for each of the concerts and a portion of that money will also benefit the BBBS organization. Those who dine at Texas Jack’s those nights can use their receipts to enter the concerts without additional charge.

Also, “The BIG Night” T-shirts will also be available for purchase at $10 each.
