Free job coaching for displaced managers

Special to The Gazette

TIFTON — Managers who have been affected by the economic downturn can attend a free workshop titled “Job Coaching for Managers, Supervisors, Executives, and Professionals” on June 23-26 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Sponsored by the ABAC Public Service and Business Outreach Center and the Tifton Career Center of the Georgia Department of Labor, the class offers 24 hours of training at no charge to the attendees. The same session will also be offered on July 6-9 and Aug. 10-13.

PSBOC Director Diane Kilgore said the special workshop is funded by the University System of Georgia through its Georgia LEADS program and is directed to meet the needs of Georgians who have been displaced by the downturn in the economy.

“We are going to limit the class size to 20 so that everyone gets a lot of individual attention,” Kilgore said.

Michelle Reddick, an experienced Human Resources professional, will lead the workshop, which includes four six-hour classes. Reddick has over 10 years of experience in the corporate environment in human resources and corporate recruiting for a variety of companies.

Topics will include “Adapting to Change,” “Changing Careers,” “Resume Preparation,” “Oral Communication,” “Interview Techniques,” and “The Negotiation Process.” Each manager will participate in a mock interview.

Interested persons should contact Starling Bussey at the Georgia Department of Labor at starling.bussey@dol.state.ga.us or call him at 391-6950. Kilgore is also available for more information at dkilgore@abac.edu or at 391-5070.
