A 36-year-old Norman Park man has been arrested and charged in connection with the recent armed robberies of convenience stores in Kelltown and Omega.
According to Capt. Mike Walker of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Division, warrants were served on Gary Wayne Ansley, 330 Big Bear Blvd., Norman Park, Tuesday. He’s being held in the Tift County Jail, charged with two counts of armed robbery.
Walker said, “We charged him with being an active participant in both of those robberies,” but wouldn’t elaborate as to the role Ansley is suspected of playing with Edwards in those robberies.
Walker said the investigation is ongoing, but he doesn’t anticipate any more arrests in connection with the cases.
“We aren’t releasing arrest photos at this time,” Walker said.
Melissa Ann Edwards, 26, also known as Melissa Ann Glasgow, is being held in the Tift County Jail and charged with two counts of armed robbery in the cases.
One Stop Convenience Store in Omega was robbed Thursday night. No one was injured in that armed robbery, but Edwards was shot by a patron in the 9 p.m. Saturday robbery of the Holiday Market in Omega.
Walker said earlier that several people were in the store Saturday when Edwards allegedly produced a handgun. He said that in the course of that armed robbery, one of the patrons confronted Edwards and she was struck by a bullet. Walker said Edwards did not return fire and that the patron who shot her will not be charged.
