Woman charged with armed robberies

TIFTON — A 26-year-old woman who was shot by a patron in an Omega convenience store is in the Tift County Jail, charged with two recent Omega armed robberies.

Melissa Ann Edwards, also known as Melissa Ann Glasgow, is being held in the Tift County Jail, according to Capt. Mike Walker of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Division.

According to Walker, One Stop Convenience Store in Omega was robbed Thursday night. No one was injured in that armed robbery, but Edwards was shot by a patron in the 9 p.m. Saturday armed robbery of the Holiday Market in Omega.

Walker said several people were in the store Saturday night when Edwards alledgedly produced a handgun. He said that in the course of the armed robbery there, one of the patrons confronted Edwards and she was struck by a bullet. Walker said Edwards did not return fire and that the patron who shot her will not be charged.

Edwards gave two residential addresses to officials, one as 2076 Highway 37 E., Moultrie and one as 1573 Georgia Ave., Omega.

The investigation into the robberies is ongoing.
