Ray City mayor to run for Ga. Gov.

Though running as a Democrat, he believes the state would be better served if its leaders forgot what’s best for their respective parties and remembered what’s best for the state. He would seek unity in the political parties, as well as end the concept of “two Georgias” — one based around Atlanta; the other, everything south of Macon — and seek a united Georgia.

Camon is a proponent for giving educators the authority they need to run their classrooms. He would improve the quality of law-enforcement training, and would work to ensure that police “aren’t outgunned by criminals.” He supports the concept of high-speed rails improving transportation in Georgia.

Camon grew up in Ray City. He served in the Air Force. He is a Valdosta High School teacher. He and wife Angela are parents of four children, Carl, Aaron, Camille, and Candace.

He says his small-town experience can help him be an effective governor but knows as, a small-town mayor, he must increase his name recognition.

“Name recognition can be a good thing,” Camon says. “It can be a bad thing. People often hear the name but don’t listen to the ideas. I want to people to hear the ideas.”

Camon has a motor home to travel the state. He’s developed a Web site (www.camonforgovernor.com).

He plans to go to the people to present his ideas.

“I want to return government back where it belongs,” he said. “I want to return government back to the people.”
