At last Monday’s special called meeting of the Tifton City Council, council members passed a resolution in support of the senior apartment complex named Harbor Pointe Phase II.
At the May 5 regular meeting of the council, Vice Mayor Joe Lewis made a motion to table a request for a Special Exception for the senior citizen development to be located at E.B. Hamilton and Carpenter Road. Harbor Point Phase II will be a 56-unit apartment complex for residents age 55 and up and will be very similar to the Harbor Pointe complex located on Richards Drive off Old Ocilla Road.
Lewis said at the council’s regular meeting on May 5 he wanted to table the special exception zoning request for the apartments so that he could “digest the info.”
On Monday night there was no further discussion of the Harbor Pointe development and the city council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance providing for a Special Exception for the property. Harbor Pointe would be a Special Exception within the R-P (Residential-Professional) zoning district to allow for a senior multi-family residential development. The property is a 10-acre tract.
After the council had voted, councilwoman Marianna Keesee asked the developer, Jerry Braden, when construction would begin. Braden said it would probably be this time next year.
