Teens charged after fight involving bat, knife

Staff reports

TIFTON

Two 17-year-old girls were arrested Thursday and charged after a fight between the two that involved a kitchen knife and a ball bat.

According to the incident reports filed at the Tifton Police Dept., Passion Victoria Simmons, 116 Brookhaven Drive, and Ashley Nicole Church, 1126 S. College Ave., were both charged with aggravated assault.

According to the report, Simmons said that while she was waiting in front of 1126 S. College Ave., Church and another female began cursing at her and calling her names because of a “past incident” between them. Simmons told the officer that Church approached her with a ball bat and started attacking her with it — beating her on both arms and on her back.

The officer noted that Simmons has substantial bruising and a small cut on the back of her right shoulder. Simmons told the officer that she defended herself by cutting Church with a kitchen knife she had in her purse. Church was cut on her right thumb and her left upper arm was scraped with the knife.

Church was transported to Tift Regional Medical Center where she received stitches for the cut on her thumb.

Church advised the officer that Simmons was walking in front of her residence and came into her yard talking to the third woman and telling the woman she was going to get revenge for the prior incident. Church said Simmons then started swinging a pink knife recklessly and, while Church was trying to stop Simmons, she got cut on her right thumb and left upper arm.
