This month is Older American month. In conjunction with Older American month, Dr. Loraine Sumner, an internal medicine physician at Affinity Health Group will address common health issues facing aging adults as well as the proper screening exams and preventative measures one can take to be proactive when it comes to diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and other conditions that arise as a result of aging.

The event is planned for Tuesday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Leroy Rogers Senior Center at 315 West Second Street in Tifton.

Sumner is a native of Tifton. She graduated with honors from Mercer University and completed her residency at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Her special interest includes geriatrics and preventative medicine.

The event will also include information for Special Patients In Need (SPIN), a program that provides a bridge between patients, doctors and pharmacies to assist them in receiving medications that they may not be able to afford.

Information will be available about Medicaid Waiver programs that assist the elderly and updates on estate recovery. There will be a complimentary lunch and door prizes.
