MOULTRIE — A rash of armed robberies might be linked to two young Moultrie men arrested this weekend.
Andre Buie, also known as “Rooter,” 18, 1313 Hutchinson Drive, and Anthony Emanuel White, also known as “Ant,” 19, same address, were booked on charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault Saturday afternoon.
Video surveillance showed one offender being dropped off at Moultrie Pet Center, 1219 First Ave. S.E., Saturday afternoon, allegedly to commit the armed robbery, Lt. Alfonso Cook said.
The clerk told police the offender, his face concealed by a black mask and red bandana, cocked a handgun and demanded everyone get on the ground. The robber then pointed a gun to her head as he demanded if she worked at the store. After depleting the register of cash, he left by the back entrance.
He was wearing black shorts and a black shirt and was described as about six feet tall. His voice was described as young, reports said.
Police tracked down a silver four-door Suzuki that was registered to a relative of one of the defendants, Cook said.
Investigators, however, have yet to retrieve any weapons that might have been involved. The handgun used in the pet store hold-up appeared to be a 9 mm, witnesses said.
An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen at the store, and it hasn’t been recovered, Cook said.
Other robberies occurred within a few blocks of each other between Friday night and Saturday afternoon. White and Buie are suspects in these as well.
“We are working to try to identify that. We’re investigating them in the past robberies we’ve had,” he said, listing this weekend’s armed robberies at Pizza Hut and Subway and recent robberies at Dollar Tree in the Wal-Mart shopping center, Waffle House, Paradise Point II and Ronnie’s Radiator Service.
All these robberies were in the same area.
At the Subway restaurant on First Avenue Southeast, an employee ran into two masked men on her way to the garbage dumpster about 11:22 p.m. Friday. One was wearing a green shirt and tan shorts. The other wore all black, the witness reported.
