Arson not suspected in Ty Ty fire

By Angie Thompson, Senior Reporter

TIFTON — The cause of a fire that destroyed a mobile home in Ty Ty Tuesday morning is still undetermined but not deemed as “suspicious” by an arson investigator.

Firefighters from Tifton, Ty Ty, Chula and Excelsior responded to the fire at the double-wide mobile home at 129 Davis St. in Ty Ty just after 3 a.m. Tuesday. No one was at the home at the time and no one was injured.

The owners, Jerry and Becky Macree, were out of town at the time of the fire. Unconfirmed information is that they were on their honeymoon out of the country.

A spokesman for the Georgia Safety and Fire Commissioner’s office said Friday that the arson investigator had been in contact with the Macrees and gotten permission from them to go on the property Thursday to conduct his investigation. The spokesman also said that the fire started on the rear deck of the mobile home in the area of a hot tub.
