Fred Bennett of Tifton has been chosen to represent Moultrie Technical College at the EAGLE Leadership Institute Feb. 11-13. The Leadership Institute recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult education classes and programs including GED test preparation.

The Technical College System of Georgia, through its Office of Adult Education, sponsors the annual Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Leadership Institute.

Bennett, a Tifton resident and recent graduate of the GED program at Moultrie Tech’s Tifton campus, was born in Hahira and grew up in Lenox.

“The most important lessons that I have learned from participating in the adult education program are being on time, learning to be a leader and being a role model to those that want to get their GED,” Bennett said. “I enrolled in the program to improve my education and to move further in my life.”

Sandra Griffin, Bennett’s former adult education instructor at MTC in Tifton, was Bennett’s instructor.

“Fred is an outstanding student,” Griffin said. “He has a fantastic personality and is well-liked by his peers. He is thoughtful, caring and motivates other students in their studies. He has strong a Christian belief which has served him well in keeping him on track towards his goals. He has turned his life around by working very hard to complete getting his GED. He strives to improve himself for the future."

Bennett's favorite book is "The Wave.” He enjoys watching action and comedy movies, football, basketball and UFC and playing video games.

He recently enrolled in Moultrie Tech's Computer Information Systems program and plans to graduate with a Networking Specialist degree and open his own business.

EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in the adult education and literacy programs. This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.
