Body found by sheriff’s office

By Angie Thompson, Senior Reporter

TIFTON — The body of a 21-year-old woman found in a wooded area off Tifton-Eldorado Road has been identified as that of, Kelly Wallace, a missing Jacksonville, Fla. woman. Wallace died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and no foul play is suspected in the case.

According to Capt. Mike Walker of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy discovered an abandoned car on Tifton-Eldorado Road on Dec. 31 and ran the license plate to see who the vehicle belonged to.

“They didn’t receive any hits but found out who the car was registered to,” Walker said.

The vehicle was towed by a local wrecker service. Walker said the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office contacted the Tift County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday regarding Wallace being missing and suicidal. Walker said investigators then went to the area of the 1100 block of Tifton-Eldorado Road, near Willie Moore Road, where the car had been parked. They searched the woods nearby and located her body at approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday.
