La Fiesta del Pueblo planned for Sept. 27
Authentic food, festive music, traditional dances, arts and crafts and a children's carnival are part of the annual La Fiesta del Pueblo, the biggest celebration of Hispanic culture in south Georgia. The festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 27 at Fulwood Park.

The following food service establishments were inspected in Tift County between July 25 and 31. These establishments were evaluated according to the rules and regulations set forth in the Georgia State Chapter 290-5-14. SPD apprehends Ty Ty youth in connection with shootings
A 17-year-old Ty Ty resident has been charged in connection with the shootings Saturday in Sylvester.

Tifton visitor robbed at gunpoint
A robbery and aggravated assault, as well as several vehicle break-ins, were reported to local law enforcement earlier this week.
According to an incident report filed at the Tifton Police Department, Officer Terry McStott reported at 11:54 p.m. Tuesday that he was sent to Love's Truck Stop in reference to investigate a robbery and assault.
MTC Tifton’s Tawzer gains experience as Master Teacher
Accounting instructor Melody Tawzer represented Moultrie Technical College’s Tifton Campus as 40 instructors from throughout the Technical College System of Georgia gathered for the first Georgia Master Teacher Experience. The event was held in Thomasville at Southwest Georgia Technical College the week of June 8-12.
GMTE is designed to bring TCSG teachers together for an intensive week of focus on instructional innovations, motivational techniques, situational problem-solving, contextual learning, and information exchange. The Master Teacher forum is an experiential learning event developed by teachers for teachers.
Foundation awards scholarships to 262 students
A total of 262 students at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will receive over $350,000 in scholarships from the ABAC Foundation when classes begin for the fall semester on Aug. 13.
Gospel sing to be held at Tift Theatre Aug. 9
Easter Seals Day Solutions is presenting a gospel sing Aug. 9 at the Tift Theatre.
The doors will open at 5 p.m. and the singing will start at 6 p.m., featuring local gospel groups The Faithful Servants and Three 4 One.
DOT suspends roadwork this weekend for sales tax holiday
Shoppers will get a break from road construction this weekend to go along with the state’s suspension of the sales tax for school supplies, clothing and computer equipment.
TRHS to close long-term care unit
A rapidly changing health care environment and available bed capacity by local skilled nursing facilities in the community are among the reasons Tift Regional Health System will close its Transitional Care Center at Tift Regional Medical Center by Oct. 1, hospital officials have announced. TRMC will no longer admit patients to the Transitional Care Center, effective this past Monday.
