Three severely injured in explosion

By Angie Thompson, Senior Reporter

TIFTON — Three people were severely injured in Ty Ty Monday night when a camper they were in exploded. All three were transported to an Augusta burn center for treatment.

The pull-type camper was located at 101 Nelson St. in Ty Ty. It is believed that Romulius Carol Edmondson, 50, a 40-year-old woman and a 13-year-old male juvenile injured were living in the camper. Neither the names of the woman and boy nor the condition of the three people involved could be confirmed Tuesday.

Don Allen, an arson investigator for the Georgia Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner’s office, said Tuesday that the investigation is incomplete but it is believed that a leaky line to a 20-pound propane tank caused the explosion and fire. Allen said investigators believe the propane was being used for cooking in the camper.

“There has been no official determination, but it is now being treated as an accident,” Allen said.
