Nine people either complained of injuries or were visibly injured in a Saturday afternoon wreck on U.S. Highway 82 West near Salem Church Road. The wreck involved nine vehicles and resulted in one driver being charged with making an improper lane change.
According to a spokesman at the Georgia State Patrol Post #13 in Tifton Wednesday, TFC Ben Taylor investigated the wreck. He would not be available for comment until today.
The spokesman said that Taylor’s unofficial incident report stated that Charles Bailey, 66, of Tifton, who was driving a 1985 Ford Bronco, was at fault in the accident and will or has been charged with making an improper lane change. According to Taylor’s remarks, Bailey and Charles David Brewer, 60, also of Tifton and driving a 2008 Ford F-250, were both traveling east on Highway 82. Bailey, who was in the left lane, attempted to make an improper right turn onto Salem Church Road. The right side of Bailey’s Bronco struck the left front tire of Brewer’s F-250, causing the Bronco to jackknife and travel over into the westbound lane of U.S. Highway 82, where it then struck another vehicle.
Bailey and Brewer complained of injuries. According to Tift Regional Medical Center, drivers Jermaine Killings, 24, Albany; Brad Willis, 31, Tifton; Gwendolyn Gordon, 49, Ty Ty; Victoria Melton, 40, Tifton; and Rosa Randall, 42, of Ty Ty, were all treated and have been released from the hospital. A TRMC spokesperson said Joyce Willis, who, according to the GSP, complained of injuries after the wreck, was not in the hospital’s system. No information was available on 16-year-old Shantae Roberts, who complained of injuries at the scene. Roberts was a passenger in Randall’s vehicle. A 1-year-old child riding in Randall’s car was not injured.
