The pilot of the plane that crashed near Chula has been identified, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Medical Examiner's Office.
Thirty-nine-year-old michael Elliott Leadlay of Orlando, Fla., was flying the plane from Merritt Island, Fla., to LaGrange-Callaway Airport in LaGrange.
The last radar contact with the Piper PA-28, single-engine plane, was at 10:08 a.m. Friday, with the initial call to the E-911 center occurring at 10:09 a.m.
The plane crashed near 462 Red Oak Road. Investigators at the scene said the Leadlay was killed instantly. No cause has been determined yet for the crash.
