Single-vehicle accident takes life of Ray man

IRWIN COUNTY —

A one-vehicle wreck late Wednesday evening on Frank Road at the Irwin, Ben Hill County line resulted in the death of a 24-year-old male.

Trooper Brandon Smith with the Georgia State Patrol Post 36 in Douglas told The Tifton Gazette Thursday that at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, 24-year-old Nicholas Justin Williams of Ray was traveling south on Frank Road in a 2002 GMC Sierra. As he was taking a right curve, he ran off the right side of the road and then overcorrected, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle, striking several trees. The vehicle overturned and during this time, Williams was ejected and the vehicle landed on top of him. He died on the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Smith said Williams was traveling too fast for conditions.
