Rants & Raves - June 12

TIFTON —

I don't have metal detectors at my work, so why has the county appallingly spent our taxes to protect the county employees in the Charles Kent Building from our most law abiding citizens who have carry permits? Up until now, they were not protected from criminals with guns. You are safer by having guns in the hands of lawful citizens.

A friend and I took a stroll through Tifton’s industrial park and to say the least, I was totally embarrassed by the trash and lack of upkeep.  I understand that it has been hard for the Chamber of Commerce to bring in any new jobs and many of the buildings are emptied. But I wonder if the Chamber of Commerce would consider keeping the area cleaned and maintained.  Some of the fences are damaged and the high vacancy makes the area look like a ghost town.  I am sure those who might even consider bringing in jobs to the industrial park might change their mind if the saw the current condition.

This is to the person who hit the little chocolate tip chihuahua on Paulk Road Sunday: Slow down. I understand she should have not been in the road, but Paulk Road is not a speedway from 319 to Ferrylake Rd. If you would have slowed down and beeped the horn she would have shot back in the yard. We just moved there and she was confused to as where she was.

City budget improvements...scrap airport, theater , downtown subsidy..insurance is guaranteed to increase. increase individual premiums.  SPLOST, LOST (which you voted for) estimates never meet "expert" projections or fund certain projects as advertised. Retirement costs will always increase...increase participation fees. Reduce hotel, motel, rental taxes for "PR" expenses...don't make citizens cover these stupid fees and quit raising our taxes for these purposes. Don"t elect idiots.
