Benson wins, two incumbents fall

TIFTON —

The unofficial election summary report shows that the race between Herbert Benson and Patty Veazey for Tift County State Court Judge was close with Benson ultimately winning the seat with 2,341 votes (51.56 percent). Veazey received 2,198 votes (48.41 percent).

For Tift County Board of Education District 4, there will be a runoff between Keith Barr and Richard Golden. Barr received 472 votes (39.97 percent) and Golden received 442 votes (37.43 percent). Mark Bennett came in third with 267 votes (22.61 percent).

For the Tift County Commissioner District 4 race, Stan Stalnaker took the seat with 641 votes (54.46 percent) while incumbent Sherry Miley garnered 536 votes (45.54 percent).

For the Tift County Commissioner District 6 race, Greg Wood took the seat with 409 votes (57.69 percent) and incumbent Mike Jones garnered 300 votes (42.31 percent).

Bryce Johnson won Tift County in his bid for the District 13 Senate seat with 2,234 votes (65 percent) while Greg Kirk garnered 1,203 votes (35 percent).
